Thinking of financing a home? Here are some things to consider:

Buying a home is a major decision and one that should be entered into with a lot of forethought. Assessing your present and future capability to pay for one of your biggest investments needs to be thought through carefully. Along with the ability to make the mortgage payments, you need to consider the other expenses that go along with home ownership. There is homeowners insurance, utilities, HOA dues if applicable and basic upkeep to name a few. Planning is crucial to making the best decision. Once you have made the decision to purchase a home, there are various steps you need to take.

    · Identify a reputable mortgage company to help you with the financing

    · Meet with a mortgage professional to explore your financing options

    · Thoroughly get acquainted with all the documentation you will need   such as income and employment verification records, a current driver’s license and social security card

Do your homework

Get familiar with the mortgage financing process. If you don’t understand something, do not hesitate to ask. It can be somewhat intimidating when you first start out, and the more information you gather, the more comfortable you will be with your final financing decision. Remember, it will be your name signed to the dotted line, and you are responsible for the property once the loan is closed. If in doubt, ask.
